I specialise in helping learners gain real confidence, with clear explanations of grammar, gentle correction of pronunciation, and creating engaging lessons tailored to your learning style.
Whether you're a complete beginner, brushing up after some time away, neurodivergent, or living in a foreign land and feeling like a stranger, I’ll help you understand the why behind the language—not just the words. With degrees in languages and linguistics, experience teaching in the UK and abroad, and a love for making language learning enjoyable, I’m here to help you thrive and achieve your language goals, together!
I plan my lessons around you, the learner, and what you need in order to best learn a foreign language. I have a strong focus on grammar and pronunciation, as I believe these are fundamental but often overlooked parts of language learning, particularly on apps like Duolingo. My mission is to make these elements fun and interesting, and attempt to explain why things are the way they are, rather than just leaving you with an "it is what it is" and moving on.
Our lessons will take place online through video call, and I'll prepare explainers and worksheets for us to work through together – sent to you ahead of each lesson. We'll also work on building vocabulary and conversation practice, which includes adjusting our lessons to your contextual needs: whether it's simply a holiday to a foreign country or some more complex interactions you might encounter.
With a bachelor's degree in French, German, Spanish, and Linguistics and a master's degree in professional translation, as well as vital experience living in countries that use these languages, I have both the linguistic background and cultural experience to help you learn not only the language, but the associated culture and history.
I also have experience in teaching learners from a variety of backgrounds, including foster children and adults with autism and ADHD, carefully adapting all lesson planning and materials to best suit my tutees' needs and goals. If you have any particular needs or requirements then simply let me know – I pride myself on being adaptable: the best part about my lessons is that they are constantly evolving; they can follow a rigid timeline and structure or they can equally be fluid and adaptable, depending entirely on what suits you and your learning style best.
All the languages I have learned, other than my native English, were all once foreign languages to me too, so I know exactly what it's like to be a learner: from the frustrations and feeling stuck or like you have plateaued, all the way to the breakthroughs and that feeling of finally "getting it". I hope to help you on that same journey. 😊
